A Quote:

"There sit the knights that were so great of hand,
The ladies that were queens of fair green land,
Grown grey and black now, brought unto the dust,
Soiled, without raiment, clad about with sand."
- Algernon Charles Swinburne.

Review: The King in Yellow

The King in Yellow The King in Yellow by Robert W. Chambers
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Where did Lovecraft find his love for forbidden books that lead to madness, strange cults that follow beings from outer space, mysterious beings lurking in the corners of reality waiting to jump and gore ususpecting victims? There you have the answer. Following Ambrose Bierce’s Carcosa, Chambers make another step into the realms of the mad and brings forth more madness. Classic horror at its best, with very avant-garde characters. The stories sometimes got adrift of the main plot to favor some grounding, but that adds up humanity to the characters.
