My rating: 5 of 5 stars
The paradoxes, inhumanity, the honorless and most human sides of war are depicted with cruel efficiency by one of north america's most gifted plumes from all time. For me, Chickamauga and A Tough Tussle are two prime examples of how to develop a short story, even more than the meritorious An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge. I would dar to say that Bierce in a way is the great godfather of extreme horror: realistic depictions of violence and gore, but also its master: all unnecesary descriptions are set aside for what is truly shocking and disgusting, amidst the drama. Bierce, truly a master.
